The Detective Unit is staffed by one sergeant, six detectives, and an administrative assistant. Their functions consist of four main areas and our detectives are extensively trained in all facets of conducting investigations for all types of incidents. Their responsibilities include responding to crime scenes, case follow-ups, investigations, presenting cases for prosecution and participating in the court process. They also receive specialized training with an emphasis on areas related to their current area of responsibility and the detectives are assigned investigations accordingly.

The detective assigned to the Crimes Against Persons handles incidents including:
- Sexual assaults
- Stalking
- Domestic violence
- Hate crimes
- Death investigations
- Elder abuse
- Child abuse
- Robberies
- Assaults
- Missing persons
The detective assigned to Financial Crimes handles incidents including:
- Identity theft
- Computer related crimes
- Forgeries
- Embezzlement
- Stolen credit cards
- Counterfeit checks
The detective assigned to Property Crimes handles incidents including:
- Burglaries
- Thefts
- Vandalism
The detective assigned to Vehicle Related Crimes handles incidents including:
- Driving under the influence
- Stolen vehicles
- Vehicle burglaries
- Narcotics/drugs
- Stolen bicycles
The investigations concentrate on identifying, locating and apprehending criminals and fugitives, surveillance operations, serving warrants, extraditions, series and pattern crimes and work to prevent future crimes to our community.
The Detective Unit has an exemplary reputation in the law enforcement community and our detectives have participated in numerous multi-jurisdictional investigations with federal, state and municipal agencies. Our primary goal is to work together to keep the community safe.
