The Live Scan process is a criminal background check prior to employment, licensure, or certification. It aids in the evaluation of the applicant for a hiring or licensing authority. Agencies or licensing entities will be notified of active arrests or past convictions through this background check process.
The Live Scan hours are Monday – Friday 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. by appointment only — no walk-ins. We are closed all major holidays and University designated holidays. Due to the demand for these services, it is recommended that you arrive on time for your appointment to avoid the necessity to re-schedule.
Applicant agencies provide applicants with the Request for Live Scan Form. For UCLA Employment a PDF version of our Live Scan form is available on our website under the Services tab. The form on our website is for UCLA Employment ONLY. All other Live Scan forms must be brought in by the applicant for the agency that will be receiving the results of the background check. UCPD can not determine what Live Scan form an applicant is processed under for non UCLA background check service.
A Request for Live Scan Service form, which should be completed prior to your arrival.
A valid government-issued picture ID, such as a driver’s license or passport.
Payment for the services which can be made in the form of either credit card, check or money order. All major credit cards are accepted.
The cost for Live Scan services includes a rolling fee (which varies per Live Scan location), plus applicable State and Federal charges. The rates are currently as follows; our rolling fee is $28.33, the DOJ (Department of Justice) charge is $32, and the FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) charge is $17. All rates are subject to change depending on the type of application being processed. You will be advised of the cost once you arrive and information provided on your form has been entered into the computer.
Per DOJ policy, sharing of criminal history is not permitted

Each job/license/permit application can require a different level of service, i.e., some require DOJ, some require both DOJ and FBI, in addition to other checks
In most cases, the results from DOJ come back within 72 hours. Please note, due to various reasons, results can be delayed. For any significant delay, DOJ will contact the requesting agency. The results from the Live Scan fingerprinting are either emailed or sent to the requesting agency listed on the Request for Live Scan form. Once the Live Scan process has been completed at our facility, please direct all inquiries to the agency handling your employment or licensing.
